Soho & Winson Green signal box was a Great Western Railway type 27c design opened on 9th June 1912 fitted with a 61 lever Great Western Railway 3-bar vertical tappet frame, replacing a temporary signal box dating from December 1909. The signal box was demolished before the official closure date on 17th September 1972.

Looking north along the down relief platform in the 1970s. All buildings, apart from the ticket office and the modern waiting shelter, were demolished by BR due to vandalism becoming an issue follwing the station becoming unstaffed.

By the 1970s the station had a real air of neglect with weeds becoming prevelant on the platforms and peeling paintwork on the foortbridge, the bricked up windows of the ticket office just add to the feel.

Looking in the Wolverhampton direction during the 1970s following the demolition of most of the platform buildings. BR must have considered the down platform waiting shelter in a good enough condition to retain. The brake van of a goods train on the Pilot line can be seen heading towards the goods yard.
