The Wolverhampton passenger accomodation seen in the 1970s following a visit from the Smethwick Mob, we can only hope the Mods travelled by train and purchased a ticket. The shelter was the remnants of the WR 1950s modernisation programme along the line when it was still considered a principle route with a future. Note the missing glazing in the lantern roof on the Goods Shed.

Looking towards Wolverhampton in the 1970s from the Birmingham end pf the station with partially removed pointwork abound. Minimal maintenacne was only being carried out at this juncture and tales of a make do and mend approach are prevelant.

Looking in the Birmingham direction, in the 1970s, with the main building and the signal box rubble littering the Birmingham platform. West Bromwich signal box was abolished on 2 November 1968 although the structure remained until the early 1970s.

Looking again towards Birmingham in the early 1970s the stations along the Wolverhampton Low Level to Snow Hill line were certainly not inviting places in the early part of the decade, all part of the closure plan though.

The mound of demolition rubble has been partially cleared in this early 1970s view with the area looking more like a bomb site than a functioning railway station.
