Looking towards Wolverhampton in this pre 1967 picture. Mail bags have been readied on the Birmingham platform for loading onto a southbound working. The platform staff member appears to be taking a short rest prior to the loading commencing.

More than likely this picure was taken on the same day as the previous shot. Mailbags are stacked on the down (Wolverhampton) platform with some residing in the 'six foot' between the running lines.

Looking in the opposite direction along the Birmingham platform in the 1960s with the station showing the first signs of neglect. West Bromwich signal box opened during 1899 and was a GWR type 7a it was equipped with a 39 lever GWR Double Twist frame and replaced a box dating from 1870.

A photograph to compare with the previous shot, taken in late 1960s. The Birmingham platform has had its canopy removed with the lighting column by the signal box having disappeared too. The Goods Yard closed on 1 May 1967 and is now devoid of track.
