By 15 August 1976 the fine overall roof of the booking hall had been removed leaving the ticket windows open to the elements with the Carrara Ware facings brightly reflecting the sun.

An evocative image of, the less photographed, platform 12 on 15 August 1976 the broken windows and the trackbed devoid of rails makes for a rather sad sight.

Looking south over the station site in 1977 with a bright new cityscape having built up around what, is now, a totally dilapidated station demolition would come shortly.

Looking out from the tunnel mouth in 1977, demolition had begun on 4 October 1976 and was slowly progressing. Tell tale marks on the bridge from the survey carried out by BR show there were signs of buckling in the overbridge structure which has, latterly, had a support placed under the left hand side.

The exit created by the third rebuild directly onto Colmore Row photographed from platform 6 during 1977 as demolition at the north end of the station was underway.

Looking north in 1977 from patform 7 the demolition contractors have removed all of the glazing from this end of the building and now look to be starting on the steelwork structure.

One final view for the photographer and it is a shot that must have been taken thousands of times, from the footbridge looking north; sadly not a King or a Castle today just a station in its death throes.

Then it was gone. This 1980 view looking along, what used to be, platform 7 shows the exposed broad gauge tunnels. Thankfully the furture of the site, for rail use, had been guaranteed by the WMPTA and within 15 years of this shot a new station would be constructed on the site with trains, again, running through the vast tunnel portals.
