An interior view of the station looking south in 1977 with the total decay of the
fabric of the structure evident. Photo by Martin Westeley reproduced under Creative Commons Licence from Geograph Looking out from the tunnel mouth in 1977, demolition had begun on 4 October 1976 and was slowly progressing. Tell tale marks on the bridge from the survey carried out by BR show there were signs of buckling in the overbridge structure which has, latterly, had a support placed under the left hand side. The exit created by the third rebuild directly onto Colmore Row photographed from platform 6 during 1977 as demolition at the north end of the station was underway.

Photo by Clive Pipe ![]() One final view for the photographer and it is a shot that must have been taken thousands of times, from the footbridge looking north; sadly not a King or a Castle today just a station in its death throes. Thankfully the furture of the site, for rail use, had been guaranteed by the WMPTA and within 15 years of this shot a new station would be constructed on the site with trains, again, running through the vast tunnel portals.
