Station Name: WIDNES (1st)

[Source: Paul Wright]

Looking east in 1968 from a point that would have been towards the western end of the first Widnes station’s up platform. The engine and brake van are standing on what had been, until 1 March 1870, the up main line of the Garston and Warrington railway. With the opening of the Widnes deviation to passenger services the original route through the first Widnes station was relegated to goods line status. In the middle distance can be seen the gates of the Waterloo crossing.
