An up express service is seen at Welshpool stations platform 3 in 1962. At the head of the train is ex-GWR 4-6-0 Manor Class locomotive number 7809 Childrey Manor. At this time the locomotive was allocated to Oswestry locomotive depot. A local service can be seen in the bay platform.

Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Manor Class locomotive number 7802 Bradley Manor which had been working an SLS special is seen being turned at Welshpool on 17 January 1965. The locomotive was withdrawn from service from Shrewsbury shed in November 1965.

The early diesel era at Welshpool is shown in this view looking south-west in July 1969. A Sulzer Type 2 (class 24) locomotive is seen on an up express working standing at platform 3. At platform 2 is a Metro-Cammel DMU on a down local service.
