Station Name: UPPERMILL

Looking south from Rush Hill Road bridge circa 1950 as a St Helens to Wakefield rugby special approaches Uppermill station. The goods station is behind the photographer. ‘Patriot’ class 4-6-0 No.45550 is hauling the train. The Fowler-designed locomotive was built at the LMS Crewe works in August 1934 and numbered 5550, BR adding ‘4’ after nationalisation. On 1 December 1962 she was withdrawn from 11A, Carnforth shed, and cut up at Crewe works in August 1963.
