Station Name: TYNEMOUTH (4th)

Tynemouth did not close during conversion to Metro and is included for completeness

A fascinating period-piece. A customer purchases a ticket in the booking hall at Tynemouth station in 1980. The posters warn of the imminent closure of the Tynemouth - Wallsend - Newcastle route (11 August 1980) for engineering work to prepare it for Metro operation. The public are also warned that the overhead wires will be live before the advertised Metro service begins. Finally the familiar face of Jimmy Savile reminds us that This is the Age of the Train.
