Tynemouth didn't close during conversion to Metro and is included for completeness

Many railway stations were works of art as well as places to board and leave trains. The colonnade effect created by the curving platform at Tynemouth is striking, and justifies the description of ‘railway cathedral’ that has been given to some of the larger stations. The faded paintwork and the guards around the bases of the columns slightly detract from the aesthetic appeal of the structure. This view southwards along the up platform shows carriages in one of the bay platforms.
