A class 104 DMU in a southern bay platform at Tynemouth station in the 1970s. The bay platforms were rarely in use by the 1970s as few trains began or finished their journeys at Tynemouth, and such trains generally approached Tynemouth from the north; and excursion traffic had all but dried up.
