Station Name: SWAFFHAM PRIOR

[Source: Darren Kitson]

This wooden fingerpost once stood in Swaffham Prior village at the junction of High Street and Station Road. As mentioned in the Bottisham page, references to railway stations following closure were often simply overpainted as was the case here. Presumably the missing piece of the sign once said ' ½'. Upware is an isolated hamlet located in fenland to the west of Wicken. It has a pub / restaurant appropriately named 'Five Miles from Anywhere'. The sign seen above no longer exists and a modern sign now points the way but not, of course, to the former station.
