Looking west, towards Newcastle as a West Hartlepool, Stockton and the South train is ready for departure in June 1953. It is headed by a Gresley B16/2 rebuild of a Raven B16/1. Having been badly badly damaged by enemy action in 1943 the station was re-roofed in 1953 and rebuilt in 1965.
