On 24 August 1959 a freight train for Stranorlar and Donegal is in the process of being prepared at the south end of the Strabane CDR station. The southern goods yard can be seen to the right of the train with the goods store building. In the distance the GNRI Strabane station can be glimpsed. At the head of the train is locomotive number 5 'Drumboe' and attaching wagons at the rear is number 4 'Meanglas'.

Strabane CDR station looking south-west from the up platform of the GNRI station in 1959. The CDR shunting locomotive 'Phoenix' is busy moving a grey and a red van. The red
vans were hauled by CDR railcars.

The north end of Strabane CDR station looking north on 19 August 1959. The platform to the left served the Letterkenny Branch and did not come into use until 1909. The platform to the right was the original platform of 1894 and served the line to Stranorlar and beyond. Beyond the platform is CDR railcar number 14. In the middle distance to its right is the shunting engine 'Phoenix' and further to the right heading south along the 'Derry Road' is ex-GNRI 4-4-0 U class locomotive number 200 (UTA 65) 'Loch Melvin' on a goods train. Number 200 was built 1915.

The north end of Strabane CDR station looking north on 20 May 1960. The narrow gauge track of the CDR has been stripped back to the north end of the station platform which can be seen to the left. This had been done quickly so that the yard area adjacent to the transhipment shed could be levelled for road vehicles. A CDR road trailer in company livery can be seen in the distance adjacent to the shed. At the head of a mixed goods train on the former GNRI lines is UTA U class locomotive number 68 'Down'' (ex-GNRI number 205 built in 1948) still carrying its GNRI blue livery. The north end of the former GNRI station and Strabane North signal cabin can be seen to the right.

The Letterkenny branch platform of the Strabane CDR station seen on 4 August 1960. As soon as the last trains had run on 31 December 1959 the Letterkenny branch had been lifted between Strabane station and Lifford. The trackbed had been made into a road so that CDR buses could operate through to Strabane station using the Lifford Bridge. CIE buses in CDR livery are seen on the platform waiting to operate on services that would have previously been provided by trains.

Looking away from Strabane station along the course of the Letterkenny branch on 4 August 1960. The photograph clearly illustrates how the branch had been converted into a road that was used by CDR buses. The signalbox can be seen to the left.
