Station Name: STALEY & MILLBROOK

Goodbye to a landmark. The northern cooling tower of Hartshead Power Station is blown up in 1989. The power station itself, which stood on the level ground between the two towers, had already been demolished by this time, having been decommissioned in 1979. The warehouse of Staley & Millbrook goods station (still standing in autumn 2015) can be seen directly in front of the explosion, and the dark form of the elevated coal conveyor stands out against the smoke; remarkably this section of the conveyor is also still in place in 2015.
