Station Name: ST. LUKES

An accident at St Lukes Preston line platform in the 1950s left a lorry perched in a precarious position above the up (Southport direction) line, no doubt causing severe delays to train services. The loco is a Stanier-designed Black Five, built for the LMS. Seen working a class B, stopping passenger train, denoted by the single lamp on the top bracket, it was one of a class of 842 mixed traffic locos that were very popular with crews and earned a reputation of 'go anywhere, do anything'.
