The Channel Tunnel work site at Shakespeare Cliff c1880s looking west from Akers steps. The headframe above the shaft is seen between the buildings. Sidings came into the site from the west and are out of sight in this view, beyond the buildings. The South Eastern Railway mine worker's cottages are seen in the foreground, clearly in occupation with washing hanging on the line. Click here to see a larger version of this picture.
