The site of Riccarton Junctions first shed c.1935. After the shed burned down in 1900 locos stood on the shed’s open roads. From left to right locos are D31,4-4-0, 9640, two J36 0-6-0s, 9679 and 9692. The D31 was built in 1890 at NBR Cowlairs works and withdrawn around 12 months after this picture was taken in October 1936. 9679 is fitted with a tender weatherboard for working large snowploughs and in exposed areas to protect the crews a little, This loco was renumbered by LNER in 1946 to 5263 and later by BR to 65263
