:Looking eastwards from a point to the north of Pelaw (third) station the three routes which diverge here can be seen. Heading north (left) is the South Shields branch; the Washington and Leamside line heads off to the south (right); between them is the line to Sunderland, with a locomotive passing the site of Springwell station.
