Photo by Nick Catford Newmarket station frontage in 1975. The grandiose building with Baroque style columns has been carefully boarded up to prevent vandalism and damage. The building was supposed to be listed and future preservation was assumed.

Photo by Chris Hobdell Despite attempts to list the building permission to demolish was approved as it had become too costly to maintain, and sufficient funds for preservation could not be raised. By August 1978 the site had been sold to a housing developer.
Photo from John Woods and Alan Young collections Taken in March 1981, shortly before demolition the buildings were getting more dilapidated.
