The 4.23 pm Preston to Southport Chapel Street service is seen arriving at New Longton & Hutton station on the in August 1964. Hauled by ex-LMS Fairburn 4MT locomotive No. 42158 this short stopping train train consisted of two ex-LMS and one BR coach. The station gardens, seen to the left of the line, appear to be very well cared for. Built at Derby works in July 1948, this loco was withdrawn on 24.4.1965 from 24C, Lostock Hall shed and cut up by the end of August in the same year by Cashmores at Great Bridge
