Looking towards the northwest at Monsal Dale station in June 1933. The west end of both platforms are clearly shown as are the arrangements for the goods siding which was located behind the Manchester direction platform on which the photographer is standing. A goods loop comes off the main line at the end of the platform. Trains would have entered the loop and then reversed into the siding. The
signal box controlled traffic along the main line and into and out of the goods siding.
The signalbox seen here was opened on 25 October 1896, replacing an earlier structure, and closed on 15 January 1967.
