Looking north towards Waterloo Road on 20 December 1947. An MD&HB mixed goods train is seen on the Riverside branch. This was the point where the double track section of the line from Riverside became single for the next section to Waterloo Goods station. When this view was taken the line was single track throughout. The Liverpool Overhead Railway can be seen to the right.

Looking north along the MD&HB ‘main line’ in the late 1950s. To the right of the double track ‘main line’ is the Riverside branch with a train heading along it towards Riverside station. It is at this point that the Riverside line curves away from the ‘main line’ and heads in a south-westerly direction towards the Princes Dock entrance swing bridge. Until 1957 the Liverpool Overhead Railway had stood above the MD&HB at this point the Princes Dock station being directly above the photographer.

The MD&HB ‘main line’ looking south in February 1983. The Riverside line was to the right. The signal seen in this view controlled movements along the main line so that they did not conflict with the passage of passenger trains.

Looking south along the route of the Riverside line on 21 April 2015 from the point where it entered the dock estate at Waterloo Road. The MD&HB double track ‘main line’ had been to the left and the single track Riverside line to the right. The xxx warehouse is seen to the right. In the 1990s it was converted into residential apartments.

Looking north along Waterloo Road in July 1971. The Riverside branch can be seen running from left to right. Entering the Waterloo Goods station is an industrial locomotive of a local preservation society. The engine was based at a shed within the dock estate and on this day the society decided to make an unauthorised visit to Waterloo Goods.
