A view of the buffer stops of platforms 3, 4, 5 and 6 taken from platform 6 in 1978. During the stations final years only these four platforms had been in use. From 1973 until closure in April 1977 the Southport services had used platform 3 which is the furthest from the photographer. Ormskirk services had used platform 4 and Wigan, Bolton and Manchester services had used platforms 5 or 6. Although by the time this picture was taken the tracks had been removed many other station features still survived including benches and advertisement boards.
