Keswick Station Gallery 7: February 1972 - September 1989

Keswick station looking east from the disused island platform in February 1972.  The platform building and roofing remain in place on this platform; the rails have been removed from both platform faces. Double-topped concrete lamp standards still line the platform. In March 1972 the last trains will call at the former up platform (right).

Five years after closure the island platform has been demolished leaving the wide open space to the right. The photo, taken on 12 April 1977, is looking west along the down platform. The derelict station building, complete with glazed platform roofing, awaits its fate.

The former down platform at Keswick station looking west in July 1986. At this time the station is probably at its lowest ebb with its building derelict, the platform’s paving invaded by grass and the platform roofing badly deteriorated. Thankfully restoration would soon be under way.

The remaining platform and building of Keswick station are seen in July 1986, looking east. This sorry sight is in sharp contrast to the photos taken twenty years earlier of an idyllic, well-maintained station.
