Looking north east from the former platform 3 at the booking office and former station masters house at Hooton in August 2009. The building is situated on what was the stations Platform 2. The lines through these platforms were the fast lines that carried express trains including the Birkenhead Woodside to London Paddington services. Today these platforms are little used. As can be seen one line has been cut back to the end of the platform and the other only extends about 1 mile to the north. It is used by freight trains as a run around loop.
