Haltwhistle station looking east on 3rd September 1960. The 10.18 Newcastle - Carlisle was the last scheduled steam working on the line It is an LNER Gresley 3 Cylinder K3, 2-6-0, built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn Ltd, Darlington in 1934 and withdrawn on 17/12/1962, finally cut up on 31/ 3/ 63 at Doncaster works. Shedded in 1948 at Gateshead 52A being withdrawn from Hull Dairycoates 53A in 1962. The DMU is a Metro Cammel built 101 series, used on the Alston branch from 1960
