Goods Station Name: WIDNES (Hutchinson Street)The Widnes LMS home guard unit at Widnes goods station in 1944. Standing to the left is Joe Matthews. Left to right on the back row unknown, unknown, Les Whitfield, Joe Houghton, Ernie Broadfield, Peter Whittle and Ossie Passey. On the middle row left to right are Thomas Atkins, Joe Kirk, unknown, Albert Edge, Bernie Lloyd and Harry Melling. Sitting on the front row are Taffy Roberts, Arthur Hedgecock, Bill Riley, Joe Grice, Fred Leigh, Bill card and Sol Lloyd. By 1944 the threat of invasion had passed and many home guard units were stood down. It is possible that this was the reason why the unit had gathered for a photograph.
