A brief history

[Source:Andy Hunt}

A poster advertising job vacancies at the Mullard Simonstone factory 2 February 1971. By this time the factory was employing 3,000 people which gives you an idea of just how big this factory was. One thing the factory was offering was subsidised travel to and from work, something I'm sure they would have done if only British Rail had allowed employees to travel by train from Blackburn to Simonstone on the 6.32 am. Instead, BR cancelled that particular train's stop at Simonstone on the very day the factory opened, they never re-instated that stop. All other trains either side of the 6.32 am one all called there.
