RAILWAYS AT BIDSTON

[Source: Paul Wright]

Looking east from Bidston West Junction in April 2011. In the centre of the picture is the River Birkett. To the right of the river is an area with trees; this is the site where the former GCR line from Wrexham opened out into extensive sidings and a locomotive shed. To the left of the river running away into the distance is the route of the original Hoylake Railway which later became the Wirral Line between Liverpool and West Kirby. The line going off to the left is a siding that follows the course of the former Bidston Triangle west curve for a short distance. It was installed to accommodate Wrexham trains that terminated at Bidston station, behind the photographer, but as most Wrexham trains turn around at the station it was seldom used in 2011.
