Looking south at the location of the point at which the St Helens line became single track between Farnworth & Bold and Sutton Oak after 14 December 1969. The view taken on 31 January 1982 shows the points that were located at the southern end of the single track section cut into sections and lying on the bank. Between December 1969 and 4 November 1973 the points had been controlled by Farnworth & Bold signal box. After 4 November 1973 when the line was singled south from this point to Widnes Number 1 signal box (and Farnworth & Bold box closed) a ground frame was installed called Farnworth & Bold Number 2 Ground Frame. It controlled access to the former up line which became a siding. The ground frame was released by a key and token issueed at Widnes Number 1 signal box.
