Epsom Down station looking north-east on a cold 23 December 1981. The burnt out shell of the signal box which was destroyed in a fire a few weeks earlier is seen in the distance on the left. As a result of the fire only a shuttle service now runs between Epsom Downs and Sutton.

Looking north-east from the end of platforms 1 and 2 at Epsom Downs station in June 1983. Colour light signals have now reached Epsom Downs although the semaphore signal post at the end of the platform is still standing. The signal box has now been demolished. The box was sited beyond the brick structure seen on the left. The brick base of the water tower is partially hidden by trees on the right.

The brick base of the SB&SCR water tower was still standing on the approach to the station in June 1983. The tower was built to a standard LB&SCR design; a similar tower stood at Sutton.

Epsom Downs station forecourt in June 1983. The stationmaster's house, painted white and seen on the right, was empty and boarded up in the 1970s. It now has a tenant: Crandyke Services Ltd moved into the building in November 1977.

A class 455 EMU is seen at Epsom Downs station on 30 December 1988, six weeks before closure. By this time only platform 2 was in use, the track into platform 1 having been lifted. A surveyor’s post is noted on the trackbed. The station would be demolished within days of closure.

A class 455 EMU 455832 wait to depart from Epsom Downs station in December 2007. The Epsom Downs line is now self-contained in that there are no junctions between here and the platforms that it uses at Sutton; the line could be easily worked with trams.
