Station Name: DURHAM GILESGATE

[Source: Alan Young]

The north- west façade of Durham Gilesgate station on 5 November 1966. The station had been used only for goods traffic since 1857, and in ten days’ time it would close entirely. The gap between the principal building and the structure on the extreme right was created after the station was built, but as part of the refurbishment to create a hotel it has been infilled with an arched window.
