Looking north-east from the up platform of Durham probably c1950s. The large crowd of intending passengers is sheltered by the extensive glazed verandah on the down platform. A BR(NE) running in board is seen far left, and the electric lighting is of LNER provenance, carrying LNER or early BR nameplates. Beyond the far end of the platform can be seen Durham shed (54A sub-shed of Sunderland South Dock) which had an allocation of 0-4-4T class G5 tanks which were used on banking duties at Durham station and also hauled the Bishop Auckland to Sunderland passenger trains.
