Station Name: CHESTER NORTHGATE

Looking south along Chester Northgate station's platform 1 in 1959. The length of the train would suggest that it was a service for Manchester Central. The station still retained all of its trainshed roof at this time. 42393 was an ex LMS, Henry Fowler designed 2-6-4 passenger tank. It was built in June 1933 at Derby works, classified 4P and numbered 2393 under the LMS system. Passing into BR ownership at nationalisation, it was renumbered 42393 until it was withdrawn on 26-5-62 from 12A, Carlisle Uppeby shed and cut up at Derby in June 1962
