Looking west along the down platform of Bury Knowsley Street station on 17 February 1962. The street level entrance and booking office can be seen in the distance to the right of the line. To the right a rake of parcels vans can be seen in the up side bay platform. By this time the hipped ends of the canopies have been replaced with vertical boards.

On 17 February 1962 a Blackpool to Rochdale service is seen at the up platform. This train consists of only two coaches; they had been detached from a Blackpool to Manchester express service at Bolton. They are being hauled from Bolton Trinity Street to Rochdale by an ex-LMS 2-6-0 Hughes (Crab) locomotive No.42726 of Newton Heath shed.

The west end of Bury Knowsley Street seen on 26 May 1962. A Southport Chapel Street to Rochdale service is seen arriving at the up platform. The dip in the Bolton – Castleton line at Bury, which allows it to pass under the Manchester – Bury line, is clearly shown in this view. The footbridge is a 1953 replacement made necessary following the catastrophic collapse of the nineteenth-century structure on 19 January 1952 (click here to read more about the footbridge collapse).

A view of Bury Knowsley Street station looking west in August 1963. The passenger and goods facilities are shown, the latter appearing to be very busy. The Bury Loop Line can be seen curving off to the left; it linked to the Manchester and Bury line at Loco Junction.
