The evening rush hour would see certain services strengthened to six car units a hoard of passengers make their way to the units in platform 2 during July 1985.

The decision to replace Moor Street terminus station with a through station on the ex-GWR mainline had already been made when this shot was taken in November 1985 and preparatory work was already underway. The tunnel portal of the mainline can be see beneath the advertising hoardings to the right and within two years the original station would close.

New station access was provided from Moor Street for the up platform of the new through station.
