Station Name: ASHINGTON COLLIRY JUNCTION

[Source: Alan Young]

1866 1: 10,560 OS map. Ashington Colliery, the terminus of the mineral branch, opened in 1867 (i.e. after the publication date of this map) and closed in 1986. Although Ashington Colliery Junction is named there is no convincing evidence of a station here. The absence of road access to the junction would explain the need for trains to stop here for staff to enter or alight.
