A Haltwhistle train waits at Alston station in 1953. The locomotive is NER G5 class 0-4-4-tank, designed by Wilso Worsdell and built in 1900 and was withdrawn in 1958. Shedded at 52C, Blaydon from 1948 until 1955 when it was transfered to 56A, Sunderland South Dock until withdrawl in 1958. Alston engined shed is seen on the right, this remained in use until 27th September 1959.
