Station Name: AINTREE RACECOURSE

[Source: Paul Wright]

Looking south west to Aintree Gridiron, where several of the 27 race specials were waiting to take racegoers home (all over Britain, from Glasgow to London to Bristol) after the 1955 Grand National. These trains were the ones that brought passengers to Aintree Racecourse station. Trains would have arrived almost in convoy all of them heading west. They would then have gone onto the Aintree Gridiron for servicing. After the Grand National was over they would pick up passengers
from the station heading east.
